  • Marquis of Lorne Trail (Highway 22x), Paul (guest) wrote 9 years ago:
It should never have been called Marquis de Lorne because the Marquess (Canada's forth Govenor General) was not French but English. I believe this is the reason so many people in Calgary are confused about the pronunciation of the title and pronounce it "mar-key". The British nobleman tile is pronounced "mar'-quiss" and it is written Marquess. Marquis is the French spelling. So the road name is still spelled incorrectly even though the de has been dropped. There is even a community association that calls itself the Marquis de Lorne community association. Again, the man was not French and if we're going to name a road in his honour we should at least spell and pronounce it correctly. To this writer's knowledge, nowhere else in Canada is his title mispronounced or misspelled. I guess people still don't check facts despite it being as easy as doing an Internet search.

I was living that house. Elevator was so bad. Management never look up that. when things are not working, they always come after few days. I had one year contact and last month they charged me 1325 dollars without asking me. I had also deposit 1250 dollars and they cut 350 dollars for not cleaning the carpet which I did from a professional, and another things missing blinds which never missing. who ever was checking with me they lie and I tried to contact with the management and they never call me back. I hope people will have an idea what type of Building is it

Schmenke the track you are talking about is the Stampede Speedway. They moved the dirt track down there after they paved the original track and named it Circle 8. Circle 8 was north of the city just off Center Street.

Shawnessey/Somerset water park. The kids are coming out of the splash pool and running over to the playground with bare feet. The tarmac is made up of that rubber stuff and in this heat, the kids are burning their feet. My little one and a half year old grandson burned his feet yesterday - 2nd and 3rd degree burns, all blistered and very painful. Please please please either put up some signs to warn parents or CLOSE this facility immediately . It is your responsibility to protect these young children. A little girl yesterday also burned her back and butt on the slide.
